THE PLAN

VISIT THE LOCAL MARKET
On a pleasant market stroll you will get to know our culinary traditions and seasonal products.

There is no better way than visiting the central market to know the local and seasonal product, let yourself be seduced by the delicacies that the kind and friendly locals will show us and offer us, the best of the land and the sea.

We will visit the market with Jon where you will learn about our typical products, their origin and the ways in which we cook while chatting with the vendors having a nice time.

His passion and energy is very contagious, watch out! He loves to be in direct contact with farmers and sellers, to know the origin of the product and enjoy the passion of the producer and seller, knowing that they have a great product, 0km.

After buying some necessary ingredients, he will take you by private transport to our secret pantry.

The secret pantry is our way of expressing ourselves and welcoming you to our city. It is a philosophy, a tool to make our unique and singular culture known in an exclusive and private way, yes, but familiar and close.

ENJOY: We will open our hearts and share our experiences so you can fully enjoy our company, sympathy, food, drink, recipes, aromas and stories.

The Secret Pantry is an exclusive private Basque experience room, that takes guests on a market stroll (checking our best local products and choosing some for the dinner) before heading to our secret kitchen hidden in the city.

Let yourself be led by Jon and Sergio, who will tell you countless stories about our traditions, gastronomy, and the origin of the products you are going to taste.

In addition to the fantastic and varied local gastronomic experience, you will learn about the origin of each singular product, culinary techniques and recipes used to elaborate these sublime dishes.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in the preparation of one of the dishes and have fun with Sergio & Jon.

Have you been planning your whole trip thinking about where to eat the best paella?

Here we offer you the best plan: participate actively and learn how to cook the best paella, with your favorite ingredients in a dynamic workshop where you will taste your creation.

Sergio is a paella expert who has worked in Barcelona and Valencia (paella capitals) and he will explain to you the secrets to make one of the most famous Spanish dishes.

Kaixo! (Hi in basque language). I am Jon Gurrea and I am Basque, traveler and rugbier for a lifetime. I like sport activities such as outdoors, kayaking, fishing; as well as photography and a bit of reading too.

I also adore eating pintxos, drinking wine, cooking and shopping in the market! My salesmen are as if they were family!History is another thing I like very much. I would like to live so many key moments at different stages of time ….

My uncle Jexux taught me from a young age that a trip is the means to reach knowledge, to enjoy the show, feeling the experience. This knowledge could come from a country, a culture, a landscape, history, gastronomy …. I have traveled a while and since then I have learned a lot. I was curious, I mixed with the local people and savored a pinch of each of those lives living with them, listening to them, of course always eating and drinking with them and visiting their markets and neighborhoods.

I have worked in many different fields: been a cook, baker, adventurer, planting vine, selling local gastronomic products (such as cheese, anchovy, tuna, mushrooms, ..), driver, reception in luxury hotels,… I wanted to be a concierge and ended up being passionate about being a guide already some years behind.

It seems that these jobs have nothing in common but if you look, all the above makes sense to form me as a guide.


I will show you history, gastronomy, landscapes and I will lead you through out of crowd places meeting the locals in their daily lives, always enjoying a good local dish teaching you what we eat and how we eat.

There is no better experience than visiting a local chef, going to his lair, and having a personal and private treatment while enjoying a local culinary journey.

Sergio Rodriguez, born in Bilbao in 1980 is our guru of the secret pantry.

More than 20 years of experience, he was a partner of the trendy restaurant Végamot in Reykjavik 6 years before spending 8 years in Barcelona. In 2014 he returned to the Basque Country.

Passionate about sports such as mountaineering, cycling or surfing, he is crazy about gastronomic trips where he has traveled to Japan, Peru, Bolivia, France, Italy and more countries to enjoy the varied food and discover ingredients and techniques. 

He is extroverted and perfectionist, he pays attention to details, loves to listen to elders and learn from their wisdom and experiences. 

We can define his food as Healthy, Tasty and Sustainable by supporting local producers and buying BEST quality produce.

He is happy to open the doors of his pantry for you to feel the experience of Basque cuisine in a unique exclusive way.
