The route of the Camino de Santiago through the northern part of the Basque Country is simply fascinating
A route where you will enjoy the incredible views of the Basque coast and discover the whaling route and its history
Meet the whaling watch-hill and visit an awesome ship factory, where they will show you how the replica of the 16th century Nao San Juan is being built
To have a good ending, we will cross the river by boat, visit the Little picturesque village of San Juan and make a toast in basque
WHALER´S HERITAGE COASTAL HIKING:
San Sebastian to Pasajes
Spectacular views of Donostia
The walk starts in the center of the city, we will walk along the Zurriola beach promenade until we start to climb a demanding slope, but do not worry because it is very short and it will be worth it because we will reach the first viewpoint, which has spectacular views of Donostia.
St James Way
This route is well known for being part of the Camino de Santiago (St James way) but it was also very important for us because we climbed this way to reach the whaling watch-hill from where we watched our sea waiting for the passage of migrating whales to be fished by rowing and harpoon.
Lighthouse of La Plata (The silver)
We will continue the route along the coast towards the lighthouse of La Plata (The silver) enjoying this wonderful natural park with a great variety of flora and fauna.
Albaola Sea Factory
Before reaching the port of Pasajes San Pedro we will visit ALBAOLA, the Sea Factory of the Basques, where we will observe the actual construction of the replica Nao San Juan of the XVI century (with the techniques of that time), a whaler that sank off the coast of Canada, in Red Bay in 1565. Apart from the replica, it also has smaller boats and a beautiful museum with many ancient pieces and stories.
.
Seeing such a construction is very impressive and closing our eyes we can imagine how they sailed those seas and how life was inside those small ships for such a long voyage. Incredible!
Pasajes San Pedro
Once we reach the port of Pasajes San Pedro we will get on a boat to move to the other shore where Pasajes San Juan is located, a panorama where the old wealthy and family houses of notable entities stand out, all of them prior to 1800.
The historic center of San Juan is one of the most acclaimed landscapes for photographs, special for its architecture and the colors of their houses, which makes any visitor amazed, as the French writer Victor Hugo in 1843 spent a few days inspired by the tranquility of the bay pasaitarra.

What they say about us
Best thing I did in Donostia was book Earra tours. Getting shown around by a local made all the difference as Jon took me to places I never would have found otherwise and got me into restaurants I otherwise couldn’t get into with such short notice. Without planning ahead he took me to hidden beaches, charming little towns and amazing restaurants! Jon’s high energy is contagious as he makes suggestions and adapts the tours to your specific needs. He is also completely bilingual in English and Spanish. I will definitely use Earra tours again and will recommend them to my friends when they go to Basque Country.

Eskerrik asko Jon! Earra!

Having had the immeasurable pleasure of being guided with Earra Tours on several occasions, through the innumerable wonders, interests and delights, that the Basque Country proudly offers, I can unequivocally attest, that whether it's Paddle Boarding to Getaria, Mountain Biking/Hiking in the Pagoeta, unveiling the rich cultural History of Euskal Herria on the very streets and landmarks it was created, or indulging in the varied delectable delights of the unique gastronomic cuisine, and pintxos profusion of Donostia and the surrounding countryside, you can do no greater justice to your indelible experience, than to place your trust in a local guide such as Jon, who's local knowledge, personality and attention to detail, is peerless to say the least. You will be greeted as a friend, and depart as family. Until I return for my next holiday, I envy you all in my stead. EARRA!

I cannot recommend Earra Tours enough. Jon and his team are incredible hosts to the grand delights and culinary wonders of the Basque Country. I didn't know much about the region before my visit. The culture, people, landscape, history and food is magical. Jon taught us about all these aspects, and gave us a much deeper understanding than any other tour company. Jon is now a great friend. His humour and energy is uplifting. His passion for his homeland powerful. His local knowledge of the food scene is incredible and his enthusiasm for his clients is second to none. Tours can be customized to whatever your interests are, and can be tailored to any age group. Good on ya mate! Cheers Nathan

I wasn't sure about going on a tour in Donosti, it's not my kind of thing, but my wife insisted and boy she was right!
Jon is an awesome man, he quickly understood
what we wanted and he opened the door to an incredible day. We'll never forget the food, the drinks, the culture and a friendly and interesting conversation! Ahhhh the cheesecake!!!
Eskerrik asko Jon!! Earra!!

Jon is a good professional and fun! I learned many curiosities of the Basque culture and we did a good hiking route. All without forgetting the good food!
